There are approximately 9 million dwellings of solid wall structure in the UK. External Wall Insulation provides a viable option to improve the thermal performance of these properties.

The most common building types of this nature receiving EWI are solid masonry, concrete or brick builds. In addition old style prefabrications and framework buildings with metal or timber panel infill. Traditionally these properties have been deemed hard to treat in terms of insulating. However EWI as a modern approach to facades sees insulation applied to the outside of the building structure.

A External wall insulation system is built up through a series of components. The first layer and most important is the insulation itself. There are many types available on the market from Mineral Wool, Expandable Polystyrene, Phenolic, PIR and Cork. The insulation is then topped with bas coat renders, reinforcement mesh and a choice of decorative finishes. Advanced technology means smooth, rough, dash, brick effect and brick slip finishes are available. All of these systems can be built up on site and finished by hand to the texture and colour selected. Insulated Render systems are extremely versatile and can be applied to nearly all substrate types. Finishes can be extremely vibrant in appearance or can be light pastel shades or white. With a choice of over 2,000 colours and a range of specialist finishes, the choice is yours.

Alternatively insulation can be finished with an overloading rail system. Whether rain screen, aluminium, terracotta or timber, cladding options can provide a crisp and modern finish.
