An existing hospital with a listed status received a large extension and modern materials are made to look old. External rendering and custom built profiles the lightweight way to success.
another building given a new lease of life with the use of insulated render. The chracter of this building was maintened by installing purpose made quoins and profiles over the insulated render. After the anti-crack render was applied to the walls Lawtech Ltd created polystyrene profiles that were basecoated & meshed ready for installation. Operatives on site had to set out the works to the new extensions to mirror the listed building. The completed effect at roof level was then painted with a silicone paint to match the grade II listed building. The speed of installation and massive saving in weight allowed Lawtech Ltd to progress work on site quickly. Quoins, and cornice strings were also created to finish the effect. PROJECT NAME: Highlands House
VALUE: £150,000
LOCATION: Tunbridge Wells
SYSTEM: External Render (anti-crack)
CLIENT: Sutherland Building Services Ltd

Lawtech Ltd was instructed to carry out the external render to Highlands House, a grade II listed property. The building owned by the NHS was to be used as a mental hospital and required two large extensions built at either end of the property. The main contractor Sutherland Buildings Services Ltd constructed the walls using polystyrene pre-formed blocks and a concrete cavity infill.

All of the external walls had a requirement to match the existing structure including all of the stone features such as quoins, corbels and window surrounds. Lawtech Ltd was awarded the contract after carrying out trials using Remmers specialist external render system. The Remmers products were chosen after much deliberation as it was felt that they achieved the authentic finish needed. In addition to the external render Lawtech Ltd also installed several profiles. These were not made out of traditional stone as these would have been too heavy for the structure, too expensive and too long to make, so Lawtech Ltd submitted a proposal to install these features using polystyrene profiles. These profiles would the be rendered and meshed (the same technique and insulated render systems) prior to installation to the building.

The profiles were lightweight, and satisfied the stringent planning and architectural considerations to leave a stunning finish to the extensions; complementing the grade II listed structure.

Lawtech Ltd is an approved contractor for many of the leading façade material suppliers. We are able to provide assistance in the design and installation of various systems including lightweight metal frame and rail system as well as traditionally fixed systems, as well as the profiles you can see in the pictures above.
