In Autumn 2010 Lawtech were approached to manage and conduct the biggest proposed CESP scheme since its introduction. The project entailed full external refurbishment to 1083 properties in the Toryglen district of Glasgow.

The CESP funded scheme involves a wide range of activities in order to achieve the required uValues and bring reduced energy bills and genuine improvements to the standard of living to thousands of residents and tenants. The project consists of 4No 10-storey & 2No 15-storey high rise blocks, covering 232 apartments. In addition 111No tenements varying between 3-4 storeys, covering 851 apartments. As a sign of commitment to the community, two resident open days were held prior to works. Residents were given the opportunity to influence render colours, window styles and roof tiles to the properties.

This focus continues throughout the project with Lawtech as principal contractor employing a full time Resident Liaison Officer who interacts with residents on all notifications, development issues and deals with any concerns raised daily.

Scaffold, enabling works, asbestos management and window fitting commenced in February 2011, with roofing, concrete repairs, balcony refurbishments, and EWI (External Wall Insulation) following shortly after.

Installation of Photovoltaic cells (‘Solar panels’), Air source heat pumps and a replacement heating system and radiators follow on with phased handovers in line with the clients programme.

With Lawtech’s commitment to build greener communities, all the above works have and will be conducted with the environment in mind. Recycling waste products and reducing inefficiencies, Lawtech are able to not only deliver a quality service under BSi ISO 9001, but environmentally under BSi ISO 14001 accreditation.

With the vast volume of construction work commencing and within the footprint of the site, there stands two schools; safety was always going to be of high priority. In an effort to engage the community further, Lawtech held safety seminars. A competition was set encouraging children to design their own safety signs, of which the winning entries can be found on scaffolding around the site.

A Management team of 15 and a workforce of over 200, all employed locally, work on a scheme which to date remains one of the largest and most ambitious CESP contracts in the UK.
