Inca Conference 2011
Inca Conference 1 On Wednesday 12th October 2011 at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, INCA held their annual conference with the theme very much around ECO and Green Deal.

INCA Chairman David Harrison, welcomed all those in attendance and handed over hosting duties to Katherine Kelly, better known for playing Becky McDonald in Coronation Street.

Guest speakers included Michelle Frew from DECC, who expressed early thought processes on the Green Deal. Matt Roberts from Salix Homes outlined the positives and negatives that came out of a Green Deal pilot across a small selection of their stock, hopefully educating and influencing all attendees to actively input in to the structure of the proposed legislation.

Nigel Dewbery from E.ON introduced the concept of ECO (energy carbon obligation) and invited the delegates support in striding forward with new concepts and innovation under this proposal. Dr Paul Davidson from BREEAM discussed the ways in which thermal performance measures can be used to structure environmental standards. Jonathon Hines Director of Architype discussed the logic of Passivhaus, an eye opener to construction and insulating standards from architectural thinking.

However the show was stolen by the keynote speaker Paul Morrell OBE (inset). The Government’s Chief Executive Construction Adviser provided a range of hard hitting facts supported by comical imagery to present a memorable think tank about the work involved for all present to help meet the dream of zero carbon. A reaction of sheer surprise yet well received opportunity was felt when Mr Morrell highlighted that one property needs to be insulated every 50 seconds to hit 2050 aspirations.

Over 240 delegates turned out for the well planned conference in which 15 INCA Members exhibited along with two of the three sponsors of the event, QA National Warranties and Housing Association Magazine, with E.ON being the third sponsor. Exhibitors managed to answer questions and entertain all those in attendance. Lawtech being no different running two monitors showing a showcase of our specialist facades and greener built communities, not to forget a host of well received branded merchandise.
