When choosing an insulation type there are predominantly 5 types of insulation available in the UK market. The table left, provides a good indication of the factors that should be taken into consideration.

Although mineral wool insulation is the only true non-combustible insulation board available, it is important to understand that several system designs have been fire tested to BS8414 and it is the whole system that is tested not just the insulation type. Particular attention should be taken in respect of this fire testing on high rise structures.

The three most popular insulation types currently in the UK market are EPS, mineral Wool and Phenolic.
