The cost of External Wall insulation will vary depending on the type of insulation, system finish and quantity of work. These factors can change the price significantly and therefore it is always best to ask a specialist contractor for advice.

For example, if external wall insulation is carried out on a typical semi-detached house, the cost will be significantly higher than if 10 houses were treated at the same time. This economy of scale is predominantly due to drying times between operations. It would normally take a team of installers 10 days to complete a property (including all scaffolding and ancillary works). However, to complete 10 houses the time could be 40 days, thus a significant saving is made in respect to labour costs per unit.

Waste and other factors indicate that for housing, economies of scale are significant up to 10 units and thereafter the gain is lower.

The wide range in finishes and insulations means that an installation price may vary from £60/m² - £170/m² depending on the client’s requirements.
